HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR GEMSTONES

Proper care and cleansing practices are vital to the health of your Deegnt™ gemstones and crystals. Your gemstones are energetic tools, and the more you wear and use them, the more aware you need to be of their proper cleansing methods. Some gemstones need special care, but all can be cleansed by the applications of the universal cleansing methods listed below.

UNIVERSAL CLEANSING METHODS

Salt Cleansing

Salt has a been used for thousands of years as an energetic tool for cleansing. There is a very unique attribute to salt that cleanses and absorbs the energy in its environment. It's ability to energetically "reset" and absorb the negative or build up of energy of a gemstone and its non invasive nature, makes it the first and primary cleansing method you should use on all of your crystals. Laying your gemstones in a bowl of salt near your bed, or on a salt block is ideal. Replace the salt every few weeks or as needed.

Plant Cleansing

The energy of plants and nature, (even house plants), has also a powerful healing and energetically nourishing reset. Laying your gemstones on a house plant, indoor moss, or on top of its soil, is a way for the natural nourishing energies of the Earth to assist with the cleansing of your gems. This can also assist in cleansing the gems when they have been affected by radiation or x-rays. You may rest your gemstone on an outdoor plant, however, dependent on the gemstone, it should not be laid out in the sun for longer than 30 minutes at a time as solar radiation can alter the color and therapeutic affects of certain gemstones.

Sun Cleansing

Sun cleansing clears, energizes and revitalizes your gemstone. Place your gemstone directly on the energy of the Earth and allow it to absorb the sunshine for 5 to 20 minutes. Your gemstone should not be laid out in the sun for longer than 30 minutes at a time because solar radiation can alter the color and therapeutic effects of certain gemstones. These gemstones should limit sun exposure to less than 30 minutes per day: Amethyst, Kunzite, Rose Quartz, Aquamarine, Emerald, Morganite, all Sapphire varieties, and Opal.

Water Cleanse

Water cleansing is a practical and desirable way to quickly cleanse your gemstones of dirt and oils they have accrued during regular wear. Place gemstones in warm and cold water interchangeably for 15-30 seconds. Small amounts of very mild natural soap may be used on occasion. Gently pat dry with a soft clean cloth. Gemstones that should AVOID water cleansing: Malachite, Lapis Lazuli, Sodalight, Indigo, Mother of Pearl, Turquoise, Chrysocolla, Azurite, Kyanite.

What to avoid while wearing gems

  • Avoid smoking and spraying perfume directly on your gemstones. If you wear perfume of any kind, it's recommended to first spray it on your person, then put the gemstone on your body. Certain porous gemstones are exceptionally sensitive to scents and oils, such as Turquoise.
  • Avoid Smudging your gemstones, yes, avoid smudging. If a gemstone is even slightly porous the smoke can absorb into the crystal, affecting its therapeutic affects. Although Sage has been used for thousands of years as a spiritual tool to clear the energy of your room or environment, the power of the Sage has nothing to do directly with the energy of the space, but rather of the scent olfactory sensory nose inhales and the state of consciousness your mind goes into when the Sage or smudging occurs. Sage and smudging is a very real and powerful method for cleansing the energy of your environment, but the cleansing is actually an internal experience, rather than actually affecting the "physics" of the environment or gemstones, unlike salt which has a direct affect on the cleansing of the energy of the environment.
  • In daily life, you should avoid gem bumps. Although the gem has a certain hardness, the formation of the gem may cause a natural gap layer inside the gem. Bumps can cause greater damage to the gems.
